I did it!

I knitted a freaking sock!

Posted by Hello

This is what I've been alluding to for a while now when I've mentioned I was trying something that I might fail at doing. I used a neat pattern that requires two circular needles, and Davin is very happy with his new sock. As you can see, I've even started on a second one for him.

The yarn is really neat, too. It's called self-patterning sock yarn, and it's specially dyed to make it look like you spent a lot of time changing the yarn out. Really all I did was go around and around...

It was tremendously time consuming, and more than a little tricky (this is the first project I've ever completed to use both knit AND purl), but it was fun and interesting and I'm glad I did it. I'm not sure I'm going to let him actually WALK AROUND in these socks, considering the first one took something like two weeks to complete. Maybe we'll just frame them?

Comments:
The heel wasn't too bad, but I had to follow the pattern very carefully at that point. So, I just saved it until the kids were in bed and did it all at once. If I'd had to stop in the middle I would have lost complete control, and I don't know how to go back yet! :-O

Good job!

I think that's great! I have yet to figure out how to work those needles. Go ahead and frame them! I've heard of men framing their first stinky, wrinkly dollar they made... So why not?! lol!

Woo-hooo! Well done!

Nice! I've only ever knitted scarves. That's all I'm equipped to do.

You are a talented woman.

Aw, thanks everyone! I'm still cranking away on the second one... It is going faster than the first but is still very slow. I appreciate socks a lot more now! Hee hee!

Aaahhhh the sock - the mastery of which I have yet to attempt. It's straight old scarves and dish rags for me right now ;) I'm envious of your socking ability!!

OKay that last comment was me - I dunno why it reverted back to "unknown" when I TOLD it my name. Oh well ;)

Okay, I'm inspired now. My nephew is also named Davin. This is the second "Davin" I've ever encountered!

I am now lusting after these socks.
