Refrigerator wins!

Now, side by side or freezer on top?

Also, ice and water in the door, is it worth the extra money? What do you say?

This is so great, I may never have to make up my own mind again!

Comments:
Side by side! Go for the water and ice in the door while you're at it, why not?! I love mine! :)

Side by side with water and chopped ice thingy. I love my parents' one. *SIGH* Someday...

It sounds like you know Tiernan (or one like him) very well. I didn't know it came with locks!

Thanks for all of the opinions so far, I love the voice of wisdom you all are sharing with me!

Hey Jen... I love my side by side w/ ice & water and a lock too. We got ours at the Sears Outlet (off 6th & I-25) and we got the stove at the same time.
Some are scratch & dent and others are just last year's model...but once you get one they bring out a new one anyway, so what's the diff?

You'll have to hire someone to deliver, but they have a service they recommend and it's about what you'd pay for delivery from a regular store anyway.

OH! You might also wanna check out the Appliance Factory Outlet, I think it's called on Sante Fe...they had some good stuff there. :D We went looking at dishwashers there for MIL.

OK I will be the lone dissenter. My mom got a side by side & she says never again. She liked the freezer on top better. More room.

BTW she does love the water & ice in the door feature.

Side by side! And make it BIG--do it for me! personally, I'd love to have the ice etc in the door, but I have no idea how much it costs...

Just ask us in future if you can't maje up your mind.

Definitely side by side. We have a ice and water dispenser we never use. Ours got all yucky from our hard water even with a filter.

You didn't choose my pick for the stove, so I don't give a rat's a$$ what kind of *&%!#^ fridge you get!

(Just kidding, of course.)

Freezer on top (seems to be roomier to me)...water in the door is totally a personal thing, I think. And it may have to do something with the quality of water out of your faucet. My friends with crappy faucet water swear by their door water. :-)

I know that sounds funny but I love sounding funny.

Congrats on your new fridge. Ours was new when we moved into the house but the innards are all breaking now and driving me stinking nuts. Can you buy new fridge innards?

We've got a fridge with the freezer and fridge side by side. The fridge also has the water and ice extra.

I LOVE the water and ice on the door. I HATE our freezer. There is not a lot of room in it. I would go for the freezer on top.

Looks like I'm in the minority on that opinion. LOL.

I have the freezer on top option and while it's supposed to be roomy I'm not too sure. But totally go for the water and ice in the door if you can. *sigh* I'd love water and ice in the door :)

re: freezer space
I've had side by side & freezer on top versions. I prefer the side/side. I manage just fine to get everything that I want into the freezer. and my freezer is usually stuffed to the gills. I also have the icemaker on the door feature...LOVE IT! It makes so much more room...although it sucked when the freezer started heating up on us last summer as all the ice melted onto the floor, but that may have happened with the other ice feature as well.

I don't like the side by side with freezer/fridge. I like the side door idea but with just the fridge section on top and the freezer as a pull out drawer on the bottom and definitely the ice/water in the door.

Side by side is driving me nuts when I have to put a platter into something.

Door water/ice--rocks!

My friend did the freezer on the bottom and loves it.

My husband and I bought a refrigerator and freezer as separate units. The Fridge is actually smaller than what we had, but now there aren't any mysterious growths in the fridge anymore due to the leftovers getting pushed to the back and forgotten about. I usually just stock up for the week in the fridge anyway, so it's just the right size.

The freezer on the other hand is larger than the old freezer. This is good because I usually buy frozen in bulk and stock up the freezer for a couple of weeks. I also will use it to freeze items that are to be stored for longer periods in the chest freezer (like my homemade spaghetti sauce or soup stock).

It would all depend on your needs. My mother bought a side by side for her new house and in the old house she had a freezer on the bottom. She likes the side by side better because, being disabled, she couldn't get onto the ground to get the frozen items. Although she said that if she wasn't disabled, she would still go for the freezer on the bottom.

We were in a hurry to buy ours and ended up saving a mint over a side by side by buying two separate units - which also influenced our buying decision.

I typically don't like ice water and we have an under-the-sink filter. It works for us just fine.
