It could be worse...

I was thinking about yesterday's post, and all of the neat things from the projected future that we don't have yet. In the comments, people mentioned they're also waiting for transporters, robot maids/companions, and jet packs.

But, then my mind wandered over all of the not-so-pretty scenarios that have been predicted by science fiction writers, and I am glad things aren't as bad as they could be.

For instance, as one commenter mentioned, we are not consuming each other in tasty Soylent Green wafers. I am 5 years past the "renewal" date mandated in Logan's Run. Even with the hullaballoo over phone tapping, and the fact that it's over 20 years late, Nineteen Eighty-Four still isn't here yet. And, hopefully there aren't Morlocks setting up shop underground right now.

Maybe I'll just be content with cleaning my house for myself...

Comments:
As I recall, Soylent Green wafers were NOT tasty. You do make a valid point about dystopic sci-fi. I guess things aren't really so bad now. When I was a kid, we didn't even have a remote. So I shouldn't complain.

It is funny how very WRONG some books & movies have been when trying to predict what the future will be like.
I'm glad I'm not being tossed into some big pot and made into glue or sausages.

Remember when Pong was all the rage for TV? A stupid dot and two lines bouncing it back and forth. I loved that game! Now my son does strategic battle on the computer and he is only ten.

I still want my transporter...heehee!!!

Yep, that doesn't sound so bad - now...

"Experimental brain surgery on these creatures is one thing, and I'm all in favor of it. But your behavior studies are another matter. To suggest that we can learn anything about the simian nature from a study of man is sheer nonsense. Why, man is a nuisance. He eats up his food supply in the forest, then migrates to our green belts and ravages our crops. The sooner he is exterminated, the better. It's a question of simian survival. "

Jen, The invention I'm still waiting for is an actual working 'easy button'
Mary

There are days I wish I had help in the home, but now that you mention it...

Yes, the easy button! That's what we all want. I'd give up my jet pack for an easy button. Good job, owlhaven.

I could get behind that "easy button" thing, too. Do you suppose we should go to our senator and ask for funding or something?

We need less soylent green and more cowbell.
