Kids must be made of different stuff

So, as you all know, Tiernan's been out of diapers for about 2 weeks now. It's going great. Amen!

Well, he's been wearing pull-ups at night, but waking up dry about 25% of the time. Last night, we noticed he had a horrible rash from the pull-ups, I'm not sure why. Anyway, it was really bothering him, and he asked to sleep in his underwear (after three girls, it's hard not to call them "panties" but I'm trying, I'm trying).

So, when we got up this morning, I sort of expected him to be in a puddle, but he wasn't. He was dry. YAY! So I said, "Hey big guy, let's go potty!" He said he didn't need to. Not only did he not need to, but he sat down and had a cup of juice and didn't go to the bathroom for over an hour!

I don't know about you all, but there's just no way I could do that. If you woke me up because there was a fire or tornado and we all needed to evacuate immediately, I'd still need to stop and, well, evacuate. There's no sitting around, leisurely drinking juice for an hour for THIS mother of four!

But, I used to be like that. I used to be the one on road trips who would sit out potty breaks, prefering to wait in the car and get a little farther in my book and just plan on hitting the next break in 150 miles or so. I never understood why my mom marveled at this...until now.

Does this just change as you get older? Or is this because of the three pregnancies? How are you all first thing in the morning?

Comments:
Okay at the risk of sharing way TMI...here it goes.

I used to be able to "hold it" forever as a kid too...but then puberty struck and that all changed! I remember this quite vividly because I was 13 and jumping rope with friends and had to run home.

The reason this is such a problem for me at such an early age is that I have a "tilted" uterus and the bugger leans against my bladder...so when it swells I have less capacity.

Poor Darly knows that where ever we are that it's Mommy that has to be taken to the potty and since she can't stand the noise she doesn't like it much. Darly will hold it 8 or more hours with no problems.

The books all say that a "tilted" uterus happens in about 1 out of every 5 women...but I haven't met another one yet and all my previous docs were suprised when they discovered it in me...my current doc said she didn't know why they were suprised when I warned her.

I've noticed that boys are more likely to hold it. They're so wrapped up in what they *want* to do they can hold off on going. Then they'll suddenly jump up and have to RUN for the bathroom.

I will often wake up on mornings when I could sleep in because I have to pee. The worst is when you dream about it.

oooh I've dreamed about going to the bathroom too. luckily I wake up!

My friend's 3 year old can hold it forever too. Its like...a gift or something

What do you mean, first thing in the morning? How about all night? I'm fortunate if I get through the night without having to get up. But definitely first thing in the morning.

And my girls know that whenever a restroom opportunity presents itself, I'm there. It's not so much a capacity thing as an opportunity thing. I dislike being discomforted and would rather go when there's a restroom readily available than get caught without one. And that started with my first pregnancy.

We call my husband's underwear panties, just to try to get a rise out of him. We're not nice people. :-)

I do that, too, Lori! He just sighs. I wish we could meet! :-)

I gotta pee, brush my teeth, then eat. Those are the must dos first thing in the morning.
I used to have a normal bladder too. Now, mine is the size of a thimble, I think.
I recently had my "female" check up, and the doc said that my uterus has dropped. He asked if I leak pee when I sneeze or laugh. I don't do that, but I DO have to go wee several times per day, and when I've gotta go, I've gotta go. He also said that sometimes uteruses drop because of giving birth to large babies.

The bathroom is my first port of call every morning ( and usually once in the night lol )

If you want play i have a guess the lie post up :)
( linkage if you get it right lol)

renee, I'm with you...a bit off kilter in the uterine department. I get up twice during th e night. I stop at every chance, and I wasn't that way as a child. FUN!
