Do you know where Louisiana is?
Apparently, most young Americans don't.
Guess it's time to move the world map back into the bathroom, where we do all our best learning...
Despite the wall-to-wall coverage of the damage from Hurricane Katrina, nearly one-third of young Americans recently polled couldn't locate Louisiana on a map and nearly half were unable to identify Mississippi. The rest of the findings are just as bad. Unbelievable!

If kids aren't learning where the states are, then we are definitely failing them.
Of course, maybe the kids are thinking that the only state that matters is the one they live in. That would be typical of today's mindset.

Kids are so over-entertained that there's no quiet time for reflection & study. We pay a lot of money for Catholic schools for our girls & often they come home & say they've watched a movie. And not educational movies mind you, stuff like Pirates of the Carribean. It makes me mad.
Well if that's the national standard of learning then my kid has got them beat and we can relax on the geography lessons... which are usually Darly asking questions like "I wonder what time it is in China right now?" and me saying "grab your globe and find out."
Hahha, I went to a fellow med students house where the bathroom wall was covered in notecards and charts... :P
I wonder how well I know the states myself. I think I can pick out the big ones and the ones around me but the midwest I don't know well at all.
