Snapshots from 9/11
This site is worth taking a little time to check out. It's a listing of the sorts of things people were using the Yahoo engine to search for on 9/11/01. It's interesting to see the divergent questions people had, everything from "Is this the end of the world?" to inquiring about making blood donations.
What information were you search for that day? I remember not being familiar with Osama bin Laden, and wanting to figure out who he was and what the history was there.
PS-Happy Birthday, Mom!

I would not have even thought to use the internet, except to watch the news. I was so numb with everything happening that all I could do was sit and stare!
I couldn't get many Web sites to work that day; they were all flooded with people trying to figure out what was going on. Eventually, CNN.com brought extra servers online and I caught up. Ouch. I knew Osama from my previous career, though. And Al Qaeda. I felt like Charlton Heston at the end of "Planet of the Apes" going "You did it, you finally did it..."
I just wanted to know what was going on. We didn't and don't have television so I was depending on my friend Connie (who had a broadband account) and the radio to keep me up-to-date. My friend Gina said that I was lucky. She stayed glued to the TV for days. I don't have those images burned into my brain from seeing them over and over. I think I've only seen the plane crashing into the tower once.
