A bag and a circle cat hat!

I've been toying with the idea of using reusable bags at the store. We used to do it all the time in college, but sometime between then and now I got old and tired and just started using the bags they give you.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to make a bag. I didn't really use a pattern, but there's nothing here that hasn't been done before. I made a circle for the bottom, then some mesh, and then a band of single crochets leading to a strap. Because of my fibromyalgia, I'm not always able to carry a lot in my hands, so I made the strap long enough to go over my shoulder. Plus some! It's really stretchy.

Here's me and my bag, the bag is modeling several canned goods from my pantry:

For next time, I will make the strap shorter, and probably make the sides shorter as well. That was pretty darn heavy will all that stuff in it! I think having groceries spread out over more bags would be easier for me to manage...

I posted this bag over at the Craftster Forums, where a discussion started about how to make a hat starting from the same kind of circle I used to start the bag. When I got enough details, I decided I just had to try it out. And IT TOTALLY WORKED!

I'm up late feeling crummy, so I only had one victim model to work with as I sorted out this method. So, let's all hear a big round of applause for Tigger!

He's awfully patient, as you can tell.

Well, my work here is done. Goodnight!

Cool bag... cool cat hat!

I've thought about making some bags for groceries, etc. too. I've wondered if they would be strong enough to really hold much, but it looks like yours is plenty strong... I might have to get busy and make one too! :)

Thanks for the comment on my blog. I really appreciate your thoughts about this... The pdoc is back in town today, we'll see what happens.

Hi! the new Homesteading Carnival is up featuring one of your posts, please come visit it at: http://theshadesofpink.blogspot.com!!!!

You are so crafty! I love them both, but I must add that the cat hat photo is so worthy of any Cat Blog Friday post. Good job.

The bag is a really cool idea! I bought some twine like they use on boats to make DD's newest eyeglasses case so it wouldn't be so stretchy. Another thing I've seen done is to make the reusable grocery sack out of old plastic sacks...make strips and then knit or crochet them.

Mine are just canvas...but some were freebies.

You have the coolest cat!

That's a great bag! I love the cat hat, too. I might have to get one of those. Do you take orders?

Good for you! I've seen that bag online (a similar one, I mean) but have only seen one for knitting. Maybe I'm up for it now. When I first saw it, it was beyond my abilities.

That's a cool bag. A great picture of you, Jen. Tigger the cat looks very tolerant.

hihihi...very nice cat&hat!!!!!!!

BTW I just noticed an action figure under the couch... just like at our house ;-)
