It's Snailing!

It's snowing and hailing, so the kids have decided it's "snailing."

Are you guys all geared up for the new season of Battlestar Galactica? If you're not, it looks like the SciFi channel is running it 24/7 this week. I'm exciting, I hope they find Earth!

I've been helping out with a new local homeschooling wiki, it's called Hands On Homeschooling, and it's pretty interesting. The woman who created it has some neat ideas, and the site has lots of local contributors so I hope it catches on. I'm learning how to edit her pages so that I can add museums, etc, to her listings.

My book discussion went well. I'm thinking of doing another one next co-op, but I'm not sure which book to choose. The book doesn't have to be recent (in fact, it's kind of better if it's not, so folks can get it at the library), I just want it to be interesting and influencial in some way. Do you have any suggestions? I was considering Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, because I've always thought it was hilarious, but I'm not sure it's a book I want to make other people read. I think that's one you have to come to yourself... Any ideas for me?

Congratulations, we made it! That's one less Monday between us and the End of Days, whew.

You're funny! Yes, book club went very well. I enjoyed it lots.

No ideas on what book to read next though...I'm in a Harry Potter rutt right now...re-reading #7 for the 4th time.

What books have you done so far?

I'd suggest:

Peace Like a River by Leif Enger
Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver

Also the first Ladies' Detective Agency book is a good one to discuss. Lots of interesting topics to cover. But there is a rape scene.

Also, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon is really good, but has a lot of swearing in it. (British author, some swear words that are x-rated here I think are only r-rated there!)

So far we've read The Bell Jar and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Thanks, Susan, I'll look those over!

Glad the book club went so well! The books you've picked have all been really good choices. I'm looking forward to seeing what you pick for next time!

I need to go check out Hands On Homeschooling again. I looked at it briefy, but need to register (or join, or whatever! :) It looked very cool! What a great new resource...

I don't know - the first Battlestar went way downhill when they found Earth.

Angela's Ashes. I was just thinking about that book earlier. Read that.

Angela's Ashes is a good book, but holy cow, I can't think of a single more depressing book---and I *love* depressing books, so I've read a lot. It's brutal. But it'd be interesting to discuss how accurate memoirs can really be.

It looks like BSG could be running like the original series, where the final series was set on Earth.

I've never watched a single episode of Battlestar Galactica. I've heard it is a really good show.

Enjoy all your book discussions. The Kite Runner is a good book. It's got lots of emotion in it, and I plan to see the movie one of these days. The movies are never as good as the books.

I'm beginning to think we're all Cylons...even us!

Have you read any Connie Willis? Her 'Doomsday Book' is one of the greatest novels ever. Ever.
