New Jen's Horde

I wonder...

When a person dies violently in a book or movie, they always describe him as "lying in a pool of blood."

Why a pool? Why not a "blood puddle?" Or, if it's been a while, why not say, "he was lying in a scab of blood..."

Just a random thing from my head.

Deep, creapy thoughts!

My little brother might be able to explain this...if he were talking to me.

When people die in a pool of blood, they are "swimming" in it too!
Peace............

I think you get pool of blood most of the time because it is too hard for some writers to come up with a fresh phrase. "Never underestimate the power of human laziness."

I don't think blood scabs when it is on the ground. I think you get scabs only when it is closing off a leak by clotting then scabbing.

Jen, sometimes I think we were twins separated at birth... unfortunately, this is not one of those times.

Blood only scabs because of clotting factors that are generated within a living body that is actively trying to stop a hemorrhage.

Your point about pool vs. puddle is a good one, however, and I don n't know why they don't routinely use puddle, but I will make it a point to use it the next time I have to expound about a bloody crime scene.

You're right, I don't think it would form a proper scab. But, I do think it would dry up. I mean, it's not like it will stay wet forever like an oil slick, right?
