  Our mouse, Toast, has indeed passed on.

Due to the deviant culinary behavior of her cagemate, Meika, a quiet closed-casket burial in the general trash was performed last night.

A memorial service will be held today, please feel free to leave any condolences in the comment section.

  so I don't have anything clever or witty to say about this. But, I just read that Kurt Vonnegut died on Wednesday.

I've been a fan of his work since I read The Sirens of Titan for my senior year Humor in Literature class. I was deliberately trying to find something to read that didn't just snap right into the mold of the assignment, pretty common behavior at the time. I can't remember how I picked this book, but I do remember having to get special permission from the teacher to use it to fulfill the class requirements. It was a great read, and I went on devour just about everything else he'd written.

From the article:

"When Hemingway killed himself he put a period at the end of his life; old age is more like a semicolon," Vonnegut told The Associated Press in 2005.

"My father, like Hemingway, was a gun nut and was very unhappy late in life. But he was proud of not committing suicide. And I'll do the same, so as not to set a bad example for my children."

It sounds like he was ready to go, and no one could argue that he didn't lead a full and fascinating life. I hope all is well with him now.

  Lorrie, a homeschooling mom I know from the Five in a Row boards, passed away in November from breast cancer. We all prayed for her, and kept track of her ups and downs as she dealt with her illness and prepared her family.

She kept a blog that chronicled her family's homeschool adventures, and then told of her struggles and worries as well.

Now her husband is posting on her blog, and it's so bittersweet to read his posts. He talks about how his wife rounded out his personality, and tells her about how the kids are adjusting to school, and how life has changed. I hope that if I ever lose someone this close to me, I will be able to roll with the punches, and see my new life as clearly as he does.

  Though I only knew her from the Five in a Row Message Boards, I am sad to report the death of Missey Gray. She passed March 1st, while giving birth to her fifth child. There was a problem during the caesarean section, and she never came out of surgery.

You can read and contribute to a memorial to her at homeschoolblogger, they also give information on where to send snail mail to her family, and financial help if you feel moved to do so.

I keep thinking about her family, and I pray that they are comforted in this time.
