I'll be watching for the lady in room 217!

Stanley_Hotel

Since the trip to the County Coroner's Office is filling up nicely, I thought I'd see if anyone in the homeschool group is interested in taking the Ghost Tour at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. I booked it for our co-op, we go next month!

Those of you who are big fans of Stephen King will recognize this as the inspiration for his 1979 novel The Shining. Wikipedia has a pretty good section on how The Stanley became The Overlook in the novel, for anyone who's interested.

Maya and Sage, my 11 year olds, are the most excited about this. Well, besides me I mean :-) They've wanted to tour The Stanley since they saw it on Ghost Hunters a while back. (There are some awesomely creepy videos of their experiences here, squee!)

I'm doing this as part of the co-op, since it's really for the older kids. Speaking of co-op, we're all posting classes now, and so far we're over 55 and they're still coming in! The all time high was 70+ classes in 3 months! (For a desription of how our co-op works, you can click here.)

It's just so amazingly cool that the kids in the homeschool group are getting older, and we can do some of this neat stuff with them. When we started the group in 2002, the oldest kid available was 7. Now we've got a pretty decent DDC (Double Digits Club) within the group, and we regularly see kids from birth to around 16 at our events. I love my homeschooling families :-D

Happy Friday!

oh that sounds so cool! I don't know if I can talk dd into it though. Maybe if I can figure out how to spin it... like "remember The Green Mile? well we're going to the hotel that the guy who wrote that wrote the book about. I think I better come up with a better spin on it.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Hope you and kids have a really good time.

That sounds like such a cool trip. We didn't get to do fun stuff like that at school.

Renee, I don't know how strict you are about what Darly watches, but my kids watched the TV miniseries version of The Shining and it was OK. I'm keeping them away from the Kubrick version, that's a little too much. Either way, I'd watch it first, you know her better than anyone does!

Dad, if you hurry, you can come along!

Cube, we don't normally do stuff this cool, lest you think homeschooling is just one thrill after another. I just don't blog about the boring stuff...

I remember reading all that stuff on Wiki, once. Have a great time!
