It took $72 worth of gas to fill up the minivan...

...it would have been cheaper just to have it towed.

It's True!

My car does indeed need a new transmission. Davin went down to the shop today and talked to the mechanic for about an hour. He said the guy was really cool, and explained the whole process to him, including exactly how a transmission works and how our recent one likely failed. Davin had a great time, so I've got to give the guy credit, Davin so rarely gets to do "guy stuff."

I'm trying to take advantage of the time by cleaning and catching up on the kids' school. Not that we really need to catch up, but we've got a TON of materials about the American Revolution from the library and we'll probably get a chance to go through it.

We'll get the car back a week from today, so I bet we'll be all educated up and super clean by then! I'm reading a few books on my own right now. I always seem to have more than one going, but some of these I'm trying to really blaze through because, although I requested them all at different times, they came in all at once. Here they are: Dead Reckoning: The New Science of Catching Killers, by Michael Baden M.D and Marion Roach, Zodiac Unmasked: The Identity of America's Most Elusive Serial Killer Revealed by Robert Graysmith, The Stand: Expanded Edition: For the First Time Complete and Uncut by Stephen King (again, I seem to have to drag this one out every 1-2 years and read it, I can't help it), Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert (also again, I love this series! Tiernan almost ended up with a name like Duncan Idaho...) and The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath (this one I read back in the early '90s, and now I'm hosting a book discussion of it for the parents in my homeschool group.) And, I'm still working my way through the Book of Mormon, a chapter or two most days. :-) I've always read tons of stuff at the same time, no wonder I'm usually going in 40 different directions!

If you get a minute today, will you stop by Renee's blog? Her mom is sick, and she needs prayers and good thoughts!

New new transmission

Yep, it looks like we need another new transmission in the minivan. We just replaced it a little over 2 years ago. Hopefully we are still under warranty! Can you believe that? Yikes!

And, I'm supposed to go get a gum graft for my bottom front two teeth. We would save a ton of money if we just stopped going to the dentist and the mechanic, don't you think? Hee hee!

On the home front, one of our Home Teachers has offered to come help put our kitchen ceiling back together! Yay! So, the holey ceiling shouldn't be a problem for long.

When it rains, it pours! I really think that sometimes God puts all of the bad stuff together in a relatively short period of time just so that you can go through it and get over it all at once, then the rest of the year will be nice. Does that make sense?

Happy Monday to all!

Aaaiiiieeeeee!

We found a home for the guinea pigs, and adopted two kitties instead. Kitties weren't my first choice, but it's not all about me (darn it!) and we know the kids aren't allergic to cats.

The kitties got very ill shortly after we brought them home. Thankfully, they're getting better, but they're requiring a ton of medication to do so. They both get an antiviral 2x a day. One gets an antibiotic at the same times, and the other gets eye drops for a herpes infection in her eye (people can't catch this kind.) That's 3x a day. So, we have these really neat kitties, and they're starting to HATE me. I sort of want to cry. At least it's nothing that will cause long term problems, and these are pretty common among cats who've been on the street or in a shelter.

And, we're carless. Davin had a minor accident in the snow a while back, and we've finally gotten everything co-ordinated to get it fixed. Of course, now that they're actually poking around in there, they're finding that there's more damage than we thought. So, they're having to go back to the adjuster and see if we can get the other stuff done, which is a bit tricky since we're very near the "totalled" level of damages.

I'm still trying to clean up a blow pen explosion in my kitchen from yesterday. Tiernan was using a blow pen with the little blow pen pump, and it was going OK until the marker exploded. Now there's blue droplets on my walls, cabinets, stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. The kids say it looks like we murdered an alien in there. I keep scrubbing and cursing, "'Washable,' my butt!"

Other than that, things are going pretty well, how are you?
