Hey all!

We're still here, just having a CRAZY BUSY summer... We're on our way out to camp for the next 4 days, so I will try to take pictures of anything interesting for you.

Until then, I thought you might enjoy this. I love this :-)

Field Trip Day!

Spent the day up in the mountains. I'd post pictures, but I can't find the camera. I'm going to go dig around some more...

How was your Monday?

The Beatlemania Swap was FAB!

Remember when I signed up earlier this summer to do a Beatlemania Swap on Craftster?

Well, it's all done, and I'm going to show you the loot!

First of all, a quick explanation of what we were doing. A bunch of folks signed up to make craft items with the theme of "Beatlemania." A moderator paired us up, and we contacted each other, and made some stuff and sent it to our partner.

I'll start with the stuff I made to send (some of these photos are blurry, I was trying to get everything into the mail on time...):

I had a commemorative magazine laying around from 2004 (40 years after the British Invasion, can you believe it?) and I cut it up to make these glass marble magnets.

Then, I made this clock from a pre-drilled wood panel and clock parts. It's green because that's her favorite color, and has sheet music to "Michelle" (her favorite song). Then, I cut out an action shot of each Beatle as the decoration, so it's always "Beatle o'clock" at her house :-)

Lastly, I made a sun jar, based loosely on the directions at Instructables. It says, "Here Comes the Sun" from another favorite Beatles song. It has a solar panel built in, and you set it out during the day to collect energy, and at night it lights an LED, it's cool and PERFECT for camping!

OK, now this is the cool loot I received in this swap!

She made me this excellent knitting needle roll, with a Yellow Submarine and an Octopus!

Also, she sent me this most excellent pillowcase with the lyrics to "Dear Prudence" (one of my favorites) and silhouettes of the Beatles on it. I hung it up in my hallway so everyone can see it!

Finally, she made a cool frame with neat Beatles photos in the little frames on top. And, if you look closely, the photo is the large frame is photoshopped so that the Beatles are actually the Horde! Way cool!

And, close up:

Didn't she send cool stuff? I love it all!

It was stressful when I was in the middle of it, but it really was a lot of fun and I think I'll sign up to do another swap again, maybe after the summer is over.

Self Portraits, Andy Warhol Style

Today I had 10 kids over to learn about Andy Warhol and Pop Art. I used this lesson plan, if you want to try it at your house!

I had all the moms send me pictures of the kids with a light background, and I changed them to black and white, heightened the contrast, and printed four on a page. Then, in the style of his Marilyns (and many others, I was surprised!) we painted our own with watercolors. I took a photo of me and my kids because I didn't get permission from everyone else to post their kids, but you can imagine it I'm sure!

>:-|

I didn't have that stupid appointment yesterday after all! After I drove to the office, I found that they'd booked me at another office, across town, and they couldn't squeeze me in at either.

I was very nice about it, even though I was REALLY FRUSTRATED! I was nervous about going in the first place, and now I have to go back in a week. Hopefully I'll get to the correct office next Tuesday. [roll eyes]

I was trying to figure out if I had made the mistake or they did. I'm sure that I had some part in it, but I think it says a lot that the receptionist told me a few different times that they had this problem ALL THE TIME. Hmmm. Maybe they should do something about that, like letting people know which office they booked them into?

Anyway, I've got a lot to do today. I'm supposed to be at our homeschool group's Park Day, but I need to get supplies together and do some work for an art class I'm teaching tomorrow. Also, I need to shop because we're hosting the missionaries for dinner tonight. I love it when they come over, so I'm excited for that. And it's a good excuse to clean!

I'm loving the iPod, by the way. I moved over 2000 songs to it, and also created a big playlist of stuff I love to hear, and set it to shuffle. So, we're listening to "All Jen, All the Time" on the cool speakers Davin bought for me. Right now it's The Show Must Go On, from The Wall.

Have a cool day, and if you see me around tell me to get back to work!

Are you sick of hearing about my teeth yet?

I know I am!

I have that consult today to determine if I need a gum graft. I like to know what to ask when I go in to talk to medical folks (or anybody, really) and so I surfed around looking for information on this procedure. I don't recommend it. First of all, DON'T do that unless you're really into looking at really gruesome photos. Like if extruded eyeballs aren't gross enough for you.

Secondly, the information is just not anything you actually want to know if it's a procedure that your dentist is pretty sure you need. I found a fellow blogger's account of her recovery, and it's not very comforting. I tried to leave a comment for her, but it wouldn't let me. I hope that's she's alive and well and fully recovered!

I wonder if they'll just put me completely under for a week or so? I'd probably lose a lot of weight that way, too! That would be excellent...

NICU Picnic/Fishing Picnic

Today we went to TWO picnics!

The first was a reunion picnic for the graduates of the NICU at the hospital where Anya spent so much time after she was born (remember from her birth story that she was born 16 weeks early?)

I got a great picture of Anya with her friend "A," who is also 11 (I met her mom in the NICU), and the woman who was a primary nurse for both of them. She was really cool, and we just loved her. She's still working there, which is good news for the preemies of Denver!

NICU Picnic, Auntie E, Anya, and A.

Anya's in the middle. Don't they all look great?

There were lots of multiples there today, which just reminded me to be grateful again that Maya and Sage had a pretty normal birth story! Twins have a higher chance of being preemies than singletons do, but I was actually pregnant with Maya and Sage longer than I was with any of the others. (Really, I was! It didn't just FEEL that way!)

Then we had a dinner picnic with some friends. We went fishing. I don't fish, though, I avoid slimey, smelly stuff. After 11 years of diapers I just don't have the stomach for it anymore.

So, anyway, this is what I was doing when everyone else was fishing:
Fishing, Jen
Why yes, that's the multidirectional scarf from this post. No one caught any fish, so I'm the only one who actually accomplished anything while we were out. Time well spent, as far as I'm concerned.

Have a great weekend!

Friday is a Free Day!

Davin's mom took all the kids up to the fair, so I'm home alone! Woohoo!

I think I'm going to go take a bath in a little bit, but right now I'm moving music over to my early birthday present. Good times.

Hey, Dad! Smell my butt!

Yes, this is what Tiernan came down the stairs gleefully yelling...at midnight.

The heck?

It turned out that he had squirted linen spray all over his underwear. Which, I suppose, is one of the nicer things that could have happened when someone is asking you to smell their butt.

See, this is the weird stuff I'm doing while the rest of you are sleeping. The next time someone asks why I'm up all night, I'm going to remind them that it's because I'm trying to out last TiernanBob FloweryPants.
